The Neurological Surgery Residency Program provides the resident with many educational opportunities including ethics curriculum/consultation, structured curriculum on end-of life care, and education components on malpractice, jurisprudence, and/or risk management and education on physician-patient communication skills.
The residency consists of a five-year program after internship. The residency focuses on patient management with emphasis on the diagnostic work-up, surgical management and post-op care of both the trauma patient as well as elective cases. There is exposure to a wide array of patients including traumas, brain tumors, aneurysms, and a multitude of spinal surgeries, consisting of microsurgery and spinal-instrumentation and fusion involving the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions.
Neurosurgery uses the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Curriculum for Residents.
All student rotations can be arranged through the CORE office by calling (937) 226-3957 or by submitting an externship application. To view the Curriculum for medical students rotating on the neurosurgery service at Grandview, go to Neurological Surgeons Curriculum for Medical Students.
